Day 1: Pick up from Kigali/ Goma and head to Tchegera Island

Your driving guide will meet you at the agreed-upon pick-up location in Kigali or Goma and will accompany you on your Congo safari for the following days. You will exchange pleasantries before beginning your 5-hour car trip from Kigali to Goma.

As part of your Kigali city trip, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Grounds and the Kimironko market, as well as enjoy an enroute lunch before continuing to the Goma Gisenyi border, where you will check in with the Virunga office at the Grande Barrier crossing facility. You will then connect to Bolengo, where you will board a boat bound for Tchegera Island.

This is a 30-minute trip, so you will be able to check in at the luxury resort on time. Check in and unwind. Spend the remainder of the day at the lodge resting and settling in as you wait for supper. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be provided by the exquisite Tchegera Island Tented Camp.

Day 2: Day and night at Tchegera Island

Get up whenever you want and connect for breakfast. After breakfast, you will connect for any island activity you are interested in, such as a tropical nature stroll on the island’s virgin paths, kayaking, paddle boarding, taking on a kayaking adventure, or even snorkeling if you choose.

You will eat a picnic lunch at the hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing while waiting for supper to be served. You will spend the second night at the Tchegera Island Tented Camp.

Day 3: Leave Tchegera and connect back to Kigali

Wake up on this lovely island, eager to connect with your next trip. You will eat breakfast at the hotel and arrange your items for check-out. Your driving guide will be waiting for you at the Bolengo port to take you to your next destination.

If you are interested, you may join a Goma city tour to witness the effects of Mount Nyiragongo on the region as well as how the city has gradually recovered from the rubble. Pass via a few cultural landmarks before connecting to leave the nation.

When you are ready, you will travel to Kigali via the Grande Barrier border, stop for lunch in Musanze, and end the safari in Kigali. If you did not complete the Kigali city tour on Day 1, you may do so on this day. End of safari!
