Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Trekking.

Day 1: Pickup in Kigali and Transfer to Bukavu

After an early morning meal at your home or hotel, your guide will meet you and give the safari introduction. Shortly after the briefing, you will begin your tour and travel through Rwanda’s west besides Lake Kivu. Lunch on the way, arriving in Bukavu late in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you will be settled into your lodgings for refreshment and relaxation before the Gorilla Adventure the next morning. Due to different nations’ travel regulations, we recommend that you arrive in Rwanda within 3 days of starting your trip.

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega

The Kahuzi-Biega National Park is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park, which covers a large area of primary tropical forest and is dominated by two stunning extinct volcanoes, Kahuzi and Biega, has a diversified and plentiful wildlife. Some of the final populations of eastern lowland gorillas, numbering about 7,000 individuals, exist here at elevations ranging from 2100 to 2400 metres above sea level. They have black coats, and as they age, the males gain silver backs. We approach this uncommon ape with the assistance of a ranger and trackers. The hike might take many hours, but seeing the group in its natural surroundings is an uplifting experience.

Day 3: Tour Bukavu City and Transfer to Cyangungu

After a leisurely breakfast, we will take a city tour of Bukavu, visiting the post office and historical monuments where you will be introduced to one of the pan-African Patrice Lumumba and the late Laurent Kabila, the father of Joseph Kabila, the current president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who took power following his father’s assassination in 2001. This will be followed by a transfer to Cyangungu, commonly known as Rusizi, a town named for the border between the two nations, which is divided by Lake Kivu. You will check in to your hotel, which will be proportional to the previous hotel.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Cyamudongo Forest and Transfer Back to Kigali.

After an early breakfast, we will go to Cyamudongo Forest in Nyungwe Forest National Park, where we will be guided through the rain forest by a team of senior rangers in search of our closest cousin. There is no guarantee of locating them, but on a lucky day, they can be readily found because they can be located by vocalisation. When you discover them, you will only spend an hour with them before departing for Kigali, arriving late in the evening. Your guide and his 4X4 Safri vehicle will leave you off at your Kigali apartment or at the airport to return home/for another safari elsewhere in Africa. End of Safari!
