Detailed Itinerary for 8 Days Uganda Primates and Masai Mara Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Kibale National Park

Our business representative will meet you on the first day of your safari to introduce himself and inform you on your schedule. After that, you’ll drive to Kibale Forest National Park. Visit the Crater Lakes Region or the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru cultural site and stop for lunch at Fort portal. Connect later to Kibale Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at your preferred lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk

Spend the morning tracking the exuberant chimp families in the Kibale forest. Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor, is a thrilling experience. Though they can be difficult to spot, you will be in no doubt of their presence as the forest is alive with their noisy calls.

Return to the lodge for lunch and embark on a guided nature walk in Bigodi Swamp. Get a chance to view a variety of bird species and also view the prehistoric Shoebill Stork. You can also opt to visit the nearby local communities and mingle with the friendly locals. Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and drive from Kibale National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to half of the world’s last gentle giants known as “endangered mountain gorillas.” These endangered mountain gorillas may be seen in their habituated gorilla families, which are divided into four sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga. During your visit, you can trek in one of the twenty habituated Gorilla groups and have an emotional experience getting up close and personal with Uganda’s very own great apes “Mountain Gorilla in the Mist.”

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southern Uganda and is often regarded as the best basic safari location on the African continent. On your route to Bwindi, you will pass through the Ishasha section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may see tree climbing lions clinging to acacia and fig tree branches. You will then have an en route lunch before departing the Queen for Bwindi. Expect to arrive late in the evening to the park and travel to your lodge for supper and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking

You will get up early in the morning and go to the park’s headquarters for registration and briefing. Once at the park’s headquarters, a ranger will read to you the dos and don’ts of this trip. At the park headquarters, you will also be given a gorilla group/family to hike with and will be able to hire a porter to help you carry an extra bag. You’ll venture into the woods in quest of mountain gorillas. Looking for mountain gorillas takes between 2-8 hours local time, and if you discover them, you are permitted to stay in their vicinity for 1 hour to snap photographs and observe their behavior. You will also see numerous birds and other primates before returning to the park’s headquarters for your trekking certificate and then to your resort. You can choose to have an evening Batwa experience or relax at your lodge as described above.

Day 5: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, we check out of the resort and are transported to the airfield to board a flight to Maasai Mara. We connect to our aircraft to Masai Mara from Kihihi, with a layover in Entebbe for immigration clearances, then to Kisumu for another clearance as you enter Kenya, and lastly to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Our driving guide will meet you at the reserve airstrip. He’ll take you to the lodge to check in, enjoy lunch, and rest. In the evening, we embark on a short game drive in search of creatures such as lions, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes, rare kinds of Giraffes, Zebras, and impalas, among others. Return to our lodge for dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 6&7: Full Day Game Drive

Depart for an exhilarating morning game drive after breakfast. Look for lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards, Maasai giraffes, zebras, elands, and, of course, wildebeests and a variety of birds. Return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on an evening game drive to observe any animals you missed earlier in the day.

Day 8: Drive to Nairobi and Departure

It’s hard to believe that our safari is coming to an end after only six days. Your heart yearns for more, but time has run out. You will check out of the lodge and be transferred to the airport in time for your flight home or to your next destination. End of Safari.
