Detailed Itinerary Itinerary for 8 Days Serengeti and Zanzibar Safari
Day 1: Pickup in Arusha and Transfer to Tarangire National Park.
Your driving guide will meet you at Arusha airport and accompany you on the travel to Tarangire National Park to begin your private safari game drive. The Tarangire River, which runs through the park and serves as the primary supply of freshwater for the species, inspired the park’s name. This peaceful park is well-known for its elephant migration, birds, and true safari feel. After a packed lunch, you’ll make your way to Africa Safari Lake Manyara at the end of the afternoon’s game drive. You will have time to relax upon arrival before completing the day with dinner beneath the stars and a good night’s stay at your chosen accommodation.
Day 2: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater and Game Drive.
Make an early start today to avoid missing your drop into the famed Ngorongoro Crater. The magnificence of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area will take your breath away the moment you arrive. Even more so when you reach the crater’s edge and take in the breathtaking vista of one of the world’s natural marvels. This extinct volcano’s crater is roughly 3 million years old, 20 square kilometers in area, and the world’s biggest unbroken volcanic caldera. The fauna in the crater is magnificent because of its natural limits. The crater is home to the Big Five and provides an excellent opportunity to see the uncommon black rhino. Add hyenas, zebras, buffalo, and elephants to the mix, and you’ve got the perfect canvas for an unforgettable safari adventure. At the conclusion of the afternoon, you return to Africa Safari Lake Manyara for a well-deserved night’s rest.
Day 3: Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti National Park
You have a long and enjoyable journey ahead of you today as you go from Lake Manyara to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and then to Serengeti National Park. The road will take you through the Maasai heartland, which is home to the Conservation area’s sole tribes people. The Maasai people, who are traditionally nomadic, have a rich culture and can frequently be seen herding their cattle in brilliantly colored traditional Maasai robes.
They live in total harmony with the land, relying on their long-held family knowledge of plant life for survival. You will see giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife along the way. Prepare to be astounded as you catch your first view of the Serengeti’s limitless plains. When you arrive at our Africa Safari Serengeti Ikoma lodge, you will have already had your first taste of game drive and the 14,000+ square kilometers that comprise the Serengeti National Park.
Day 4: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti
We go for the Serengeti North after breakfast. Depending on the migration’s path, you may even travel further north as the plains fade behind you, giving place to forests of acacia trees and thick vegetation. Many herbivores and carnivores live in the region, including buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, eland, cheetah, hyena, oribis, topi, impala, Thomson’s gazelle, giraffe, hippos, and the Nile crocodile. The northern Serengeti is less visited than the southern and central Serengeti, resulting in fewer automobiles on the road and a more ‘private’ safari experience.
At the conclusion of the day, you’ll exit the park through Klein’s gate and discover another surprise: Maasai culture in all its splendour. At Africa Safari Maasai Boma, you will spend the night in a modern-style replica of a traditional Maasai earth hut with an en-suite bathroom and king-size bed.
Day 5: Fly to Zanzibar
Today is your final game drive in the Serengeti, which will conclude in the afternoon at the Seronera airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar Airport. While flying above Serengeti National Park, take in the spectacular sights and observe the shifting beauty of the Great Rift Valley. As the jet stops short at Arusha, you could catch a view of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will arrive at Zanzibar Airport and be welcomed by your driver guide before being taken to Reef & Beach Resort, where you will check in to a Suite Mangrove/Pool view on an all-inclusive food plan.
The days ahead may be spent at your leisure, taking advantage of all the amazing resort amenities – spa, massage, poolside sunning, or a swim in the ocean. For the more daring visitor, you could choose to try scuba diving or go on one of the many day trips offered.
Day 6: Zanzibar
After breakfast, spend some time relaxing at the Reef & Beach Resort or booking an extra trip. Tanzania’s most popular beach location is Zanzibar. Aside from the water and beaches, there is Stone Town, spice farms, snorkelling, diving, and canoeing.
Day 7: Visit Prison Island
After breakfast, you will take a local motor boat that will take you on a 20 minutes ride to Prison Island. The island was formerly used as a private detention centre for rebellious slaves. Later a jail was constructed but never actually used. Today, Prison Island is a small tourist destination for tourists visiting Zanzibar Island. Among some of the interesting activities done at prison island include; snorkelling, guided nature walks and feeding tortoises. Take a boat back to the main Island and drive back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Departure.
Have your breakfast in the morning at leisure. Depending on your destination flight schedule, you can drive to Zanzibar airport where you can board your return flight back home or fly back to Arusha.
