Meet Uganda’s Primates on this 5 Day Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari
Observing gorillas and chimpanzee in their natural habitat is an exciting and breathtaking experience that you can live on this Uganda Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari. It’s hard to find the words to describe the sensation of looking into the eyes of a wild mountain gorilla standing so close you could touch it. This tour includes a Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Kibale National Park that boasts of having the highest number of primates in the world.
- Day 1 – Entebbe/Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park
- Day 2 – Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Nature walk
- Day 3 – Transfer to Bwindi National Park via the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 1: Entebbe/Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, pack up for the Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari route, setoff for Fort Portal Town en-route to Kibale Forest National Park for your Chimpanzee tracking experience. You will stop over in Fort Portal for lunch and a brief tour around the Crater Lake.
Arrive and check in at the hotel/lodge right in time for your evening dinner.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Nature walk
Early morning breakfast will be served at your booked Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari lodge after which you will transfer to Kanyanchu Tourism Center for briefing and the Chimpanzee trekking will start at 8am. The chimpanzee trekking experience will take anywhere between 2-5 hours involving hikes through the forested landscape that coveres vast chunks of Kibale National Park.
In that afternoon you will step out for the nature walk at the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. During the nature walk you expect to observe plenty of bird species and some primates like the Vervet and L’Hoest Monkeys. You will return to the lodge in the evening for your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi National Park via the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park
After the delicious Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari breakfast, depart your lodge and head for Bwindi Forest National park on a drive that will see you traverse through Ishasha and area south of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The Ishaha plains are famed for their tree climbing Lions which can only be spotted on a good day as there no definite guarantees of finding the Lions up the trees. But sights of Elephants and Buffaloes are a common feature on the route. You will arrive at Bwindi in the evening right in time for your dinner and overnight stay at your preferred lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Early morning breakfast will be served at the Lodge after which you will transfer to the park headquarters for briefing for allocation of your Gorilla tracking groups and meeting the rangers. You will connect to the trail head and enter the forest on foot in pursuit of the gigantic primates that have come to be popular known as the Mountain Gorillas. The Gorilla trekking experience takes anywhere between 2-6 hours depending on the location of the Mountain Gorillas on a particular day. You are allotted a time frame of one hour to stay with the Gorillas in their natural habitat and observe their peculiar habits as the young ones play about and the some feeding on leaves.
After your close encounter with the Gorillas you will return to the Lodge and depart for Lake Bunyonyi where you will relax and can opt for some nature walks at the shores of the Lake
Day 5: Transfer to Entebbe/Kampala
You will do an early morning canoe ride prior to departing for Kampala. Brief stop-over in Mbarara for lunch en-route to Kampala /Entebbe. End the Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari right here.
