Gorilla Habituation Experience In Uganda : Uganda’s single most important tourist hotspot is the 331 km2 Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which protects a rugged land scape of steep hills and valleys abutting the Congolese border south of Ishasha and north of Kisoro. Rolling eastwards from the Albertine Rift Escarpment, the tangled forested slopes of Bwindi provide shelter to one of Africa’s most diverse mammalian faunas, including 45% of the global mountain gorilla population. Today there are 18 habituated mountain gorilla groups are active for tracking in Bwindi, a thrilling expedition regarded by most who have undertaken it to be a truly once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
Gorilla Habituation Experience
For a visitor who wants to spend more time with the Giant Apes, you need to book gorilla habituation permits in advance, a maximum of 4 people are allowed to habituate mountain Gorilla for 4 hours on all-day gorilla habituation encounters in the Rushaga area of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The cost of the Gorilla habituation encounter is US$ 1500 per person per specific day. The experience offers a more relaxed and enriching encounter with the gorillas, you’ll feel less rushed and you will have more time to fully appreciate this amazing wildlife encounter.
In Bwindi, there are only 2 Gorilla groups active for habituation Bukingyi gorilla family and Bushaho Gorilla family, only 4 visitors are allowed to participate in this activity, in total there are 8 permits available daily for Gorilla Habituation Experience.
When is the best time to go?
The best to visit mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is during the dry season from June to August and December to February, however, the Equator, which runs through Uganda, has a mild to hot climate all year, with little difference in temperature but a heavy seasonal rainfall pattern – the wettest months in Bwindi are April, May, October, and November.
